November 28, 2007, 7:40 pm Yes, this is my third post of the day... Just wanted to tell you that the Seattle photos are coming soon...
November 28, 2007, 12:24 pm Who wouldn't want a free hug? So my heart rate keeps skyrocketing whenever I get up to do anything, so I keep finding myself sitting back down. Which means you get two posts within a few hours of each other!!! Aren't you excited?!?! You should be. Have you seen the 'free hugs' video on youtube? If not, take a minute to watch it before moving to the rest of this post (and watch the whole thing - there's a whole story in the video)...
Well, since this free hug campaign started, new ones have popped up everywhere. You can find videos on youtube.com of free hug giving all over the world. I first saw the free hug video a couple of months ago so I was aware of it, and when we were sightseeing with Josh in Seattle on Saturday, at Pike's Place Market, we saw this:
So I handed Andrew my camera, and went to get a free hug (that's me in the white coat):
I had to wait in line. There were some tourists getting their photo taken giving hugs (like me), and also some just getting a hug for the heck of it... because who doesn't like hugs? :) And the two photos of me getting my free hug:
I love the look from the lady in the red coat. Apparently, she has never seen anything so shocking. lol!!
And for all you naysayers out there... if you haven't ever received a free hug, I say don't knock it until you try it. It'll put a smile on your face. :) More Seattle photos in the next post. Now go hug someone. Even if you know them. :) November 28, 2007, 9:41 am Updates... I have lots of updates and lots of photos, but I won't overwhelm you. I'll just give you a little at a time. :) For those awaiting doctor results - I called and found out my thyroid and cholesterol are well within the normal ranges (as I suspected anyway since those two things are usually accompanied by weight problems which I don't have). The answers I wanted, the nurse couldn't give me (anemia and blood sugar levels), so I have to wait until the doctor calls me (within 72 hours). I'll keep you posted. Marci was in town last week. Well, she was in Portland for business, and she drove up and was able to visit for a few hours. It was great seeing her and we're hoping her business brings her back soon. I had my camera out, but apparently neglected to take photos. I know. I suck. ;) Josh came up for Thanksgiving. We also had our neighbors over for Thanksgiving dinner. We had a wonderful day filled with giving thanks, awesome food, and great company. On Friday, my Aunt Cherry, and my cousin Derek and his family came down from Seattle for a visit. We enjoyed Thanksgiving leftovers and had a wonderful visit with them as well. More stuff happened over the weekend that included lots of photos, but I'll save that for the next post. Photos from Thursday and Friday:
More photos and updates to come... including a free hug! November 21, 2007, 9:25 pm Wally World ramblings and Giving thanks... I feel like I go to Wal-Mart every day. I know that I don't, since there are days when I don't even leave the house. By the way, the days where I don't leave the house - that's purely by choice. I'm not one of those moms that feels like I'm 'trapped' and has no life of my own outside the home. I'm part homebody and part adventurer. The homebody in me loves days where I don't have to leave the house. I can spend days and days just taking care of things at home, relaxing at home, never going anywhere... and then I'll get an urge where I want to see and do things, so then we'll go do something fun and exciting. Then it feels great to come back to my home and hibernate for a while. Anyway, Wal-Mart is not on my list of 'fun and exciting' things to do when I'm itching to have an adventure. I do a lot of our shopping there (including grocery shopping since it's half the price of the regular grocery stores), so Wal-Mart trips are a necessary evil. I went today for the third day in a row. I think. I actually lost track. I know I've been a lot lately. I only had to get one small thing that I forgot to get yesterday. I ended up with three things, of course, because no trip to the giant discount superstore can end up with just what was on my list. I actually MUCH prefer Target to Wally World, but Tar-zhay is 20-30 minutes from my house (depending on traffic), and that Target isn't even a Super Target so they only have about three small aisles of groceries (one of which is filled solely with coffee). Wal-mart is three miles from my house so it wins. I wrote a paper in college (during the one semester of night classes I took about eight years ago) about how much I hated grocery shopping. My teacher loved it. It's not so much a single act of grocery shopping that I abhor so much... it's the fact that I know I have to go every week for the rest of my life (sometimes more than once a week, like this week, with Thanksgiving around the corner, when I keep forgetting important holiday supplies). What is the point of this long and rambling paragraph? Heck if I know. But it is filled with great truths of which I'm sure you all were dying to hear. Learn and apply them to your lives. Yes, I'm tired. Hey - I hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving tomorrow! My brother, and our neighbors, will be here for a delicious feast. I have so many things I am thankful for. I am about to make a '100 things I am thankful for' mini album - hopefully this weekend - and will share it with you all when I am done. I got the idea when my father-in-law posted 100 things he was thankful for on his blog this week. November 20, 2007, 6:26 pm Blah... I had to fast to take the blood tests yesterday and I'm still paying for it. My body doesn't deal well with skipping meals. Even if it's just my bedtime snack and breakfast. I'll update soon. I thought I was doing better earlier, but no... I'm not. Haven't heard from the doc yet, so who knows what the tests said. I guess I'll call tomorrow. I figure no news is good news though. ttfn... November 18, 2007, 3:58 pm Doctor, Darby's 6 yr photos, scrapbooking... My doctor visit went well on Friday. Since the diabetes thing dawned on me (or rather, God let me know), I have been feeling a MILLION times better as I adjusted my diet to fit being diabetic. I have felt better and had more energy this past week than I have in three years. It's been awesome! I'm still having small headaches (no migraines in OVER a week! Yay!), and my heartrate keeps jumping around - not sure what that is about, and I go to the lab in the morning to get some tests done. I have to fast after dinner tonight (yuck) until they take my blood in the morning for the diabetes test, plus I'll get tested for anemia, thyroid issues, and cholesterol. It seems like there was another test in there, but I don't remember what it was. The doctor was impressed that I had changed my lifestyle; he said most people refuse to do that so they just remain ill and drugged up (not me - no thank you!). I asked him about my neck pain (which hasn't been *as* bad since I started sleeping on my back with the therapeutic pillow), and he offered muscle relaxers, but I said no thanks... I don't like drugs. Percocet is about the only thing my eyes light up for - lol! (hey! that's some good stuff!!) :) So I have been eating super healthily... in preparation for my diabetes test tomorrow... I want them to say "your numbers are just fine!" so that they don't even THINK of insulin. I already know what it is, and have checked out a million books on the topic (okay, like four - but a million sounded better), so I'll just continue with the diet and making sure I get enough exercise (that's a tough one for me - I think I need a treadmill because I just don't get out and walk or run if the weather is not perfect). I have been scrapbooking more. My two newest layouts are in my scrapsupply gallery. I finally took Darby's 6 year/1st grade photos today. We started to get rained on so we had to cut it short, but I think we ended up with some good ones. These were taken at Frontier Park - where they hold the Graham Fair... just down the street from our subdivision. Here are a few of my favorites (Tell me which are your favorites - I'll number them):
I think the jumping one might be my favorite, and the close-up of her face. What are your faves, if any? November 15, 2007, 4:32 pm Tomorrow, five days from now... what's the difference?
November 10, 2007, 8:19 pm Apparently I can't update regularly lately (and lots of words that end in -ly)... We spent today visiting with my aunt and uncle and cousin at my cousin's house in Seattle today. We had a really good time. Photos to come later. Andrew wasn't able to come with us, as he had 24-hour staff duty today (yuck! in the middle of what was supposed to be a four day weekend). We went to get a new cord for Andy's laptop (which he is about to send to his sister... the current cord has had to be rewired and is kind of falling apart), so we hit Best Buy while we were out on a date last night. The guy said "it'll be around $100" while he was checking his computer to see if any were in stock. Can we spell e-x-t-o-r-t-i-o-n?!?! A hundred bucks for a freaking CORD!??! You have GOT to be kidding me! Yeah, we didn't get one. I mean the entire laptop was like 400 or so... The cord is worth 25% of the price of the computer to them??? I think not. Stuff like that gets to me. Reminds me of the price of gas... yeah - the oil companies need money - yeah! That's why Exxon had the highest numbers of any company ever last year. They need the money like I need my foot cut off. Extortion. p.s. Andy drives a Jeep to work each day - 45 minutes each way - and Jeeps are not usually purchased for the great gas mileage they get. When gas goes up 50 cents, like it did here recently, we notice. We saw "Lions for Lambs" last night on our date. It was two hours of liberal propaganda. Like not even surrounded by much of a story - just conversations by liberals, and how the Republicans are killing the soldiers because they don't have a real plan. The acting was good though. Although they were inaccurate in some of the tactical stuff (which Andy hates). We should have seen "Fred Clause" instead. Doctor appointment is this next Friday (the 16th). Please be praying for wisdom for the doc. I'm ready for a miracle. :) The military has a deal where you can get (well, if 'you' are in the military, if you aren't, maybe the term 'we' would be better) MS Office 2007 for 20 bucks. We definitely took them up on that offer. Yay. p.s. If you are a military fam and haven't heard of this - I can send you the link... you just have to have a military email address to get it. I think I'm going bald. Seriously. My hair seems like it is thinning in the front!!!!!! Hello! I'm 31! And a woman! My grandma went pretty bald and has been wearing a wig for years... but I'm pretty sure she was in her 80s or at least her 70s before this was an issue for her. Maybe I should try some Rogaine before it's too late and I have to hunt for a doctor who will do cheap hairplugs. Andy says he doesn't care if I go bald. But I'm thinking he'd probably prefer it if I have a full head of hair. You know? Well, need to get the youngest kiddos headed for bed. I'll try to get some photos up tomorrow. :) November 6, 2007, 12:01 pm Seven random things about Jacob... Ali tagged me to list random things about myself... but since I've bored you with enough random things about myself lately, I'm going to list seven random things about Jacob instead. :) 1. Jacob is obsessed with drawing. He wants to scribble on every book and piece of paper he sees (or the coffee table or walls). We have to keep all writing utensils out of his reach. With four older siblings, that's sometimes easier said than done. 2. Brittany and I have been teaching Jacob sign language. He knows the signs for food/eat, baby, please, bird, ball, big, dad, mom, milk, and possibly some others that I just can't think of right now. He's better at some of them than others. But whenever he says the above words he does the sign as well... except for mom and dad... he only does those signs when we do it first. And he's not very good at those two signs. He's best at 'please' and 'baby'. 3. Jacob is already concerned about how he looks. I tried putting denim overalls on him the other day and he went nuts. I didn't make a big deal out of it, and then he brought me a pair of gray cargo pants and laid down for me to put them on him. He apparently didn't think his shirt matched the overalls. 4. Jacob loves to play with the boys. Justice is f-u-n! and Jarvis is great at playing the copycat game. He'll grab Justice or Jarvis (or anyone else that he wants) by the hand and pull and say "Come on! Let's go!" 5. Jacob is a tornado! He loves to dump things out, throw things in the air, run amock until he finds something else to destroy, and is constantly on the go. He's a typical toddler boy. 6. Jacob LOVES to read (or rather, be read to). His favorite book right now is a Thomas the Tank Engine book that the other boys never really got into. We all have it memorized from reading it to him so many times. It's really not that good. I got a Thomas movie from the library this week, and realized that the TV show sucked too. But Jacob loves it. (and I never realized - until recently - that Thomas the Train is a spoiled brat who pouts when he doesn't get his way). 7. Jacob is a singer and dancer. He loves his tunes. I need to get him on video... he entertains us all the time. :) November 5, 2007, 2:47 pm Long update with {25} photos; grab a cup of coffee... Things that have nothing to do with the photos: 1. Brittany ended up not having to have an MMR. When they transcribed her shot record in Texas, they did it wrong. She is up to date on all her shots. We just *loved* the clinic in Texas... ugh. I'm glad I double-checked on an old copy of her immunizations before I took her to get a shot she didn't need!!! Photos from the last week or so:
I had not had any candy (or processed sweets of any kind - except a cinnamon roll at a coffee shop a couple weeks ago, if that counts) since the end of July. Jacob had tons of candy poured out on the table in front of him and the kids were all in there, so I grabbed a handful of mini M&Ms and said "I haven't had candy since July" and shoved it all in my mouth at once. They thought that was funny and a couple of them stared open-mouthed (because I've been so focused on eating healthy). The next day, I had a full size white-chocolate Twix bar, and a mini Almond Joy (minus the almond... cause gross). But that ended my candy spree; I haven't even been tempted by anymore of it. By the way, I have felt better since I had the candy - and a couple other processed foods, such as a burrito and a slice of pepperoni pizza - than I did when I was soooo careful not to eat ANYTHING bad... because I've been careful of having the right combination of foods for a diabetic diet. Not that I'm going to give up my healthy eating by any means - I have noticed such a difference in other areas, such as I am not having stomach issues (and I have had stomach issues for years and years and well, my whole life) - my stomach is thanking me for avoiding the processed-doesn't-digest-at-all type of foods... so I will continue eating organically when possible, and avoiding the junky processed foods. But if I slip up now and then, I won't kick myself too hard... as long as I'm keeping my blood sugar under control and eating healthy as a general rule.
And since this is already the longest post ever... to whomever is still reading... I do NOT like daylight savings time. Sure it's nice to set the clocks back an hour in the fall... but I SO do not see the point of it. Just KEEP the time one way or the other... Jacob agrees... and EARLY this morning, when the clock said 6:30 but Jacob thought it was 7:30... yeah, I was cursing daylight savings time!
