ode to matt...

After reading Timberly's comment, where she added "The Honeymooner's", I thought I'd add a few things I remember about Matt growing up(he is probably reading and may actually get a kick out of this). For those who don't know, Matt is one of my four brothers. He is 9 years older than me.
Okay, first, the Honeymooner's... "to the moon, Alice, to the moon" and "one of these days... pow, right in the kisser" were a couple of favorite quotes that Matt used to like to quote. I remember watching episode after episode of the Honeymooner's with Matt. There were also some movie quotes, like "he's an idiot, comes from upbringing, his parents are probably idiots too". Then there were the songs... "I can't stop this feeling, deep inside of me, girl you just don't realize what you do to me..." - I knew every word to that song LONG before I ever actually HEARD B.J. Thomas singing it. :) Also, there was "Now that you're gone, the nights are longer, the days seem to drag on, and the pain's growing stronger, a grown man's not supposed to cry, but these are tears in my eyes..." - okay, so that is a song I have not heard in probably 18 or 20 years, but I remember the lyrics because Matt sang them so much. :) (and if you are wondering why you don't know that song, it's because it was by Marci's friend's dad - or something like that - Marci had the record). Anyway, lots of fond memories of Matt growing up - he was always nice to me and took me places. Matt had a large influence on my music and movie tastes - I still love Tammy Wynette (I think I knew the lyrics to D-I-V-O-R-C-E when I was six!), and Dwight Yoakam is still my favorite! Matt took me to my first concert when I was 14... Randy Travis at the KY fairgrounds (him and his friend Sam took me - that was quite the evening! Makes me laugh STILL when I think of it). Oh yes, and our trip to the Ohio Amish country when I was 16 - and pregnant with Brittany. That was quite the hysterical trip. I think the funniest part was when a duck would NOT get out of our way on a bridge - there was a car coming the other way and nowhere for us to go, so Matt had to just run over the duck (or whatever it was - I THINK it was a duck). Anyway, we were like "ahhhhh", but then we looked behind us and there were feathers flying EVERYWHERE, and we just started laughing hysterically - couldn't stop laughing. I guess it was sad for the duck - but really struck us as funny. Okay, enough reminiscing... :) love you, Matt!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TORI! (a day late... sorry) :)

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... The kids and I went to see it yesterday so I thought I'd give my 'review'. :) I wasn't sure what to expect from it since I had heard rather mixed reviews - I had heard it was funny, weird, stupid, etc. I heard people say it was much worse than the original, I heard it was better. Anyway, I thought it was GREAT! I thought Willy Wonka (played by Johnny Depp) was absolutely hysterical. I knew that all the oompa loompas were played by the same guy ahead of time, so I wasn't surprised by that (I thought they did a good job with it though). There were a few subtle 'inuendos', but overall I thought they did a good job of not making it 'too adult', the way so many kids movies do now (for some reason, many movies lately seem to think it necessary to include curse words and sexuality in kid's movies, which I just do NOT get). But this movie doesn't do that. My favorite parts were Willy Wonka's sarcastic comments to the kids. :) Very funny. I recommend it.

I cannot believe July is almost over! I guess I've been staying much busier this month so it's gone by so much faster than June. I'm glad it's gone by fast though, since I'm eagerly awaiting the return of my husband!!! :) He will be home in a week or two (still don't have an exact date) - YAY! I can't wait. :)

July 28, 2005, 5:24 pm

The kids and I just got back from running errands and going to the library. I got a couple of movies this time... "Pokinhontus" for Darby (her pronunciation of the word) - she has been seeing previews for it in front of all her other Disney movies and has been dying to see it (she never has), and the kids picked out some Charlie Brown movie. I got a couple of movies too... one of them is "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". I have not seen it since I was maybe a little older than Brittany, but my brother, Matt, used to watch that movie over and over and over (that and "The Hustler" - maybe he liked Paul Newman? :)). The only things I remember in the movie is that the chick calls her father "Big Daddy" in a strong southern accent, and Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman's characters argue a lot (they are married in the film). So we'll see if I like the movie now. :) Oh, another movie I got was "Under the Tuscan Sun" - I remember the previews looked stupid, but you know, the library just doesn't have a HUGE selection! And who knows - maybe it'll actually be good. :)

Tomorrow, my oldest neice, Tori, turns 18 (Cory - the oldest nephew - turned 18 last month)! I can't believe all my neices and nephews are becoming adults!!! Next will be Andrea and Timothy. Before I know it, BRITTANY will be an adult. She'll be 12 this year, so we have a few years to go, but the last six years have FLOWN by, so I'm sure the next six years will be even faster! Ah well, in another four years, she'll be able to run errands for me!!!! That's definitely a perk of them getting older - being able to drive. :)

We were thinking of actually going to the pool tomorrow (there isn't one in our neighborhood so we never go - we have to drive ten minutes to get to one). The kids haven't been swimming all summer (they don't count our kiddie pool as "swimming" - not that I can blame them), so they are asking constantly. Well, Brittany went to a pool party the other night, but she's still begging for US to go. We'll see what the weather is like tomorrow (as though it will be anything but HOT!!!). :)

July 26, 2005, 8:47 pm

Wow - what a busy day. Most of it was spent driving to Austin (two hours away) to take Canyon to the airport. We got home around 4:30, but Brittany had a pool party with the church youth group at 6, so while she was there, the other kids and I ran errands. I came home with envelopes I had bought (after searching at two different stores) to mail some DVD's I sold on ebay, and of course, the envelopes (which the package said are FOR DVD's) are the wrong size! Now I have to go find more tomorrow. Ugh. I got a call from a lady I met at church though, and we're going to go over to her house tomorrow to let the kids play and eat some dinner. Another lady is coming too, with her kids. Should be fun - they both seem really nice. I'm starting to make a few friends here, so that's cool. It'll help while Andy is in Iraq to have friends (as though I wouldn't have made some eventually - I'm like the most social person ever!). :) I think we are going to go crash in front of a movie since we have been going all day long! I'm beat! Anyone want to come help me carry a couple of those pantries from Wal-Mart and put them together for me? No? Oh well - I guess I have to wait for Andy before I buy them! I'm going to get a couple to put in my laundry/storage room to use one for school supplies (we are homeschooling this year for those who don't know), and one for odds and ends like gift wrapping supplies, kid's craft stuff, etc. - stuff that I have no place for and just ends up being a mess. I LOVE to get organized! Makes life so much easier. :)

A random note... I miss Andy!!!!!! (two more weeks)

July 24, 2005, 1:49 pm

I'm so glad the first trimester is over (I'm sure I've mentioned that!). I actually made it to Sunday School AND church this morning with five kids in tow (my four, plus Canyon)... and we were on TIME!!! That in and of itself is a total miracle! :)

The "transition" period is really starting to get to me. I'm still swimming in most of my maternity clothes, and now NONE of my regular clothes fit me, so I'm stuck with about three outfits that work (but they are all casual). When I'm pregnant, I'd just as soon LOOK pregnant so I can just wear the big maternity clothes (even if they are too long). At least people know I'm pregnant, and I don't just have a pot belly. :) I think I totally look pregnant, but thanks to Brittany, I changed my clothes three times this morning. I started out with a sundress that I thought looked cute, even though it was a little snug on my belly. She let me know it did NOT look cute and I didn't look pregnant, that I looked mishapen. (Thanks Britt! - at least she's honest?) So after a couple more dresses that totally did not work, I ended up wearing a skirt pulled up to my boobs (the only way it would fit, and a LONG sleeve shirt (at least the A/C was on at church so I was only hot when I was outside). Oh well. Part of it, I guess. :)

July 23, 2005

July 20, 2005, 11:41 pm

Is July almost over?! Wow - time flies ("whether you're having fun or not", as Grandma used to say). But I'm having fun. Andy is gone and I miss him TERRIBLY, but I'm feeling so much better and getting a lot done. Maybe that's why the time is going by much quicker. When you stay busy - time flies by.

Canyon is here, and he and Justice are having a blast with their "experiments" (that they started a couple of years ago, and work on whenever they visit one another), and playing outside. Darby keeps following them around going "Canyon... Canyon..." wanting to tell him everything. :) Here is a photo of them today, in their classic "fighting stance" (Marci and I have photos of them doing poses like this since they were probably TWO!) :)

I'm really exhausted, but here it is - almost midnight - and I'm still up. I had to get up SUPER early the last two mornings (doctor appt. yesterday, and driving to Austin to pick up Canyon at the airport this morning), and my body is like "HEY! What's going on? I thought we slept IN?!?!" LOL But I'm going to sleep in tomorrow! It's nice when your kids are old enough to get their own breakfast and sleeping in is an option! I won't have that option for too much longer, since we are starting over with another baby, but that's okay - I'd MUCH rather have a new baby than extra sleep! :) I'm so excited about this baby. This will be the first one I've had since Brittany (12 years ago) that I haven't had a little toddler at the same time! Darby will be 4 1/2 - the furthest age gap in my children. I think it will allow me to really enjoy some time with the baby. Not that I didn't before, but it's much more difficult to focus on a baby when you are changing someone else's diapers and following them around. I think the kids will really enjoy the baby too - they are very excited. Right now they can't WAIT to be able to feel it kick. They are constantly feeling my belly - Jarvis always claims "it kicked me", but hello, I'm 13 weeks - he can't feel it yet. :)

Darby didn't make it back awake on the way home from the airport this morning (she usually sleeps in too!!!)...

Timothy and Andrea... Please notice the quote I added to my left hand column. You had complained that I left Zoolander out of my list of favorite movies (it's funny, but it's definitely NOT on my top ten list). :) You also complained that Napoleon Dynamite was missing - and maybe you were right about that one - I probably should bump that one up the list because no matter how many times I watch it, I laugh hysterically every time. :)

Also, ANDREA, THANK you for the birthday present you sent with Canyon. She sent me lots of scrapbooking stuff, FUN DIP (yummy!!!), and a Hello Kitty coloring book and crayons (Darby has already tried to steal it, along with some of the scrapbooking stuff!). :) Here is a photo of my loot...

Doctor, postcards, Darby...

I had my first OB appt., and I didn't care for my doctor. I didn't get to hear the heartbeat; they tried, but didn't try very hard and said "next time". I only get one ultrasound and that won't be until close to 20 weeks. So, I was feeling pretty disappointed coming out of there, since I had my hopes up so high to find SOMETHING out, and was starting to get discouraged. Then on the way to the car, I had to pass the chapel and right there in front of me were the words (in huge letters), "casting all your care upon Him". Just what I needed to see, right when I needed to see it! I don't NEED to hear the heartbeat for the baby to be healthy - that's just for my own peace of mind. What I NEED to do, is trust that Jesus is taking care of this baby and me, and that's it. I'll know what I need to know when I need to know it - and God knows when I need to know MUCH better than me! Another lesson in the fact that I have no control over what goes on, so I best stop trying to control it and let God handle it. :)

I just checked the mail and found this in the mailbox:

Timberly and LeRoy sent this for my birthday - they got it at a Petra art exibit at the museum. They are a set of large postcards with photos of the city, Petra, Jordan. I LOVE it!!! Thank you for sending it!! :) I collect postcards, and I love the city of Petra (for obvious reasons?) ~ I'd love to visit sometime. Also, Andy and I are collecting items with our name (Carden, Petra, Thor, Justice, etc.) to frame and hang in our powder room ~ reading material to cover the walls (we thought it'd be fun, funky, and different). We have Andy's grandfather's law degree, a poster from the Carden Circus, an old map of the city of Petra (a copy, not the real thing), newspaper articles from both our families, etc. So I think I'll frame a couple of these postcards to put in there as well. :) The rest will join the rest of my postcard collection ~ which is getting really big ~ I'm in the process of lining one of the "walls" (in quotes b/c it's a "wall" I made out of bookcases) of my office with postcards. I'm using sticky photo corners so the postcards don't get messed up and are easy to remove if I want to move them. I think it's looking kind of cool - much better than the backs of the bookcases. :)

Here are two photos of Darby. One with the cute pink chair she got in the mail yesterday from Grandma and Grandpa (for her birthday), and one of the little baby she got to hold today (she was THRILLED).

Well, we are off to Austin to pick up Canyon from the airport! Justice is SO excited to get to spend a week with him!!! (Canyon (my sister's son) and Justice are the same age for those who don't know). :)

July 18, 2005, 9:11 pm

My house is clean. It's a miracle! :) The kids have been in charge of the cleaning ever since I started not being able to do much, and while they are good at doing their chores, they are NOT very good at the details (noticing them or cleaning them). So yesterday and today, with my newfound energy (which just keeps increasing - thank the LORD for the second trimester finally getting here!!!!), we DEEP cleaned. Oh, it's so nice - my baseboards aren't disgusting, my floors are mopped, the laundry is done, the furniture is dusted. I'm so excited. There is nothing like having a clean house. Plus, I'm a bit of a neat freak, so it REALLY drives me INSANE when it's not spotless (which, I've gotten better about it the more kids that I have - I can now deal with only sweeping once a day, etc. - but I still like to have the place unrealistically clean). Now, if only I can get everything organized while I still have energy. I'm getting there. Later this week, I'm going to organize my office and scrapbooking area. Then hopefully, I'll get the master bedroom and closet FINALLY organized.

The kids and I just got back from Wal-Mart - the commissary is closed on Mondays (the day it seems I always need to go), so we bought groceries at good ole Wally World. When I was checking out, the cashier commented to the other cashier - "how did she get so many groceries for so cheap?!?!" I said, "lots of practice!" :)

Anyway, I'm off to put away those groceries. My first OB appt. is in the morning - I can't WAIT to hear the heartbeat!!! :)

July 17, 2005, 7:20 pm

I just put 13 movies on ebay. I'm thinking it was probably a waste of time, because who pays more than a couple of dollars for a movie on ebay? If they bid at all! I probably could have saved time and made the same amount of money if I had just thrown them in the trash, but we'll see. Never hurts to try, eh? I have bought movies on ebay, so I guess maybe there's someone out there that wants the movies that I don't want anymore.

I'm starting to have a little energy in the late afternoon and evening. The mornings are pretty sluggish and nauseous still, though. I decided I'm ready to fast-forward the next six months and have the baby in my arms instead of my stomach! No, it will all be worth it - I just want energy!!! :)

July 16, 2005, 10:05 pm

With the help of the kids, I was able to clean out the laundry room/storage room today. Yay! Been meaning to do that for ages. I couldn't lift anything, so Brittany and Justice did all the lifting and moving for me. I can't believe how strong Brittany is!!! There were a bunch of boxes in there from the move that still needed to be transferred to the plastic storage bins (mostly keepsakes) and then moved out to the shed and we managed to get it all done. Now I have tons of room in there. So I'm going to get a couple of those portable pantries from Wal-Mart and use one for school supplies and one for sewing supplies, extra picture frames, gift wrapping stuff, etc. I love to get organized! Gives me a deep feeling of satisfaction. :)

I miss Andy like crazy! I wish we got to talk!!! He did get to call a few times while they were still in the 'staging' area of their training, but I won't get to talk to him again (unless it's an emergency) for 2 1/2 weeks. Wah! :(

I got a new sewing machine from mom for my birthday. I haven't gotten to play with it yet though. I was actually getting the folding card table out of the laundry room when the organizing started and took over! LOL But now that I have the table out, I'm going to get the dining room set up tomorrow (that's where the sewing machine is going for now - I may end up moving it upstairs to my bedroom). I can't wait to see if I still remember how to sew - it's probably been about 8 years since I really sewed anything! Hopefully it's like riding a bike! :)

Darby's birthday events...

For Darby's birthday, she really wanted her ears pierced, even after I explained the process to her. So, yesterday, the kids and I made a trek to the mall, and she got her ears pierced at Claire's. She was so cute, and very excited! She picked out the earrings she wanted (the ones with the most pink in them, of course!), giggled nervously while the lady got the earrings ready, and then as she grabbed my hand very tightly just sat perfectly still while the lady pierced her ears. She didn't flinch, didn't make a sound - she was very brave (after all, even at the age of 4, she realizes that sometimes beauty means pain). LOL Here are a few photos...

this is before she got her ears pierced - her legs are blurry because they were kicking. she couldn't hold still while she waited. :) she was so excited to be finally getting her ears pierced (uh, yeah, she has asked to get her belly button pierced too (like mommy) but she will NOT be getting that done unless she chooses to do it after she turns 18!). :)
sitting still while the lady drew the dots on her ears. she was enthralled with the entire process! :)

darby's new earrings. she couldn't have been more proud of herself! :D

a close-up of her earring (not a great photo - there is a glare):

After getting her ears pierced, we were going to go see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Darby's choice after seeing the funny pictures on her Wendy's happy meal bag), but we were a day early for that, so she chose The Fantastic Four as her second choice. It was pretty good. The kids really liked it.

Today we had a little party for her with cake, ice-cream and presents. After she opened her gifts, we realized all her presents were pink. LOL Justice spent his own money and bought her a Barbie doll and a Kelly doll. Brittany spent her money and bought her a baby doll set and a little elephant key chain. Jarvis realized he forgot to get her something (I hadn't reminded him because I really hadn't planned on Brittany and Justice spending their own money to get her something - they did that on their own), so we said the wand and the bracelets were from him (the party favors - she loved the wand; it lit up). :) Here are a couple photos. I'll put more on ofoto later. :)

Darby loved hearing all the birthday wishes left for her on my comments page! Thanks to everyone who took the time to say happy birthday! :D :D :D

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DARBY!

Today is Darby's 4th birthday. I can't believe how much has happened in the four years she has been alive. Our lives have changed DRASTICALLY several times over. She has been, and continues to be, such a joy in our lives. She is a complete DIVA, but she is so sweet with all her cuddles (she must always be touching me, sitting on me, sleeping on me, something), she LOVES her older siblings, she LOVES me and her daddy, she has the cutest voice, she is hilarious, oh, and she also has a baby in her belly - the baby's name is Sally and it kicks (while she pushes her belly in and out). :) I cannot imagine life without her. I am very thankful for four years (so far) with this wonderful little being - our little princess. :)

Toilets, babies, and tears...

I don't like having maintenance workers in my house. Nothing against them, per se, I just don't like having complete strangers (usually trampling in dirt with them) coming into my house to look at my toilet! Especially when Andrew isn't here to have the conversation with them (like I know anything about why the pipes are leaking in the wall?!?! I'll believe whatever the maintenance guy tells me!!!). Anyway, so we are unable to use one of our toilets - for some reason it is leaking inside the wall when it gets flushed and coming through the living room ceiling. So the toilet is turned off, and I'm putting off calling maintenance - just because I don't want to deal with them. To tell you how bad I don't want to call - I'd rather look at a bucket sitting on my entertainment center (just in case it leaks again) and a stain on my ceiling! Maybe I'll call in the morning - I'm not up to it today.

On another note (a much BETTER note)... I felt the baby kick last night - three times, and again this morning. It's always so sweet when you feel those first movements! This is the part of pregnancy that I love - that bond between mother and child that no one else gets to experience. It's just between us. :)

I just watched The Notebook. Andy had gotten it from someone on a copied DVD a while back (*gasp* - pirating - we are so evil for "robbing" the three dollar rental fee from some multi-millionaires), but we never watched it. So since I was feeling a bit under the weather today, I popped it in. To tell you the truth, it really did not seem like my type of movie from the previews, and I had no desire to see it, so imagine my surprise when it turned out to be an awesome movie! A complete chick flick, mind you, but an awesome movie! I won't ruin it for those that haven't seen it... the young couple story was good - not awesome, good - but the relationship between the old couple really got to me - I was really crying - more than I usually do in movies. So sad, and so sweet. Anyway, if you have time for a good cry, rent it.

July 11, 2005, 3:55 pm

I wasn't on here yesterday - started feeling icky again so been resting, BUT yesterday was my nephew, Matthew's, 14th birthday, so...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATTHEW!!!!

And TODAY is my sister-in-law, Krystyna's, birthday, so...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KRYSTYNA!!!!

I heard from Andrew yesterday and he got to California okay. He's hot and in a tent in the middle of the desert, but other than that is doing good! The kids and I really miss him! I'm so thankful for our wonderful relationship that even when we're apart we have a better-than-perfect marriage! :) God has really blessed us!!!

I got a box of maternity clothes from Ali today! THANK YOU ALI!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have NO idea how helpful that is!!!!! :D :D :D Maybe now I can wear some shorts that I don't have to wear with the button and zipper open! LOL (and I know in the pool photo I don't LOOK pregnant, but I am laying down on a sunken in lawn chair! I've actually gained about 4 inches in my waist! And at the rate I've been gaining this last week or two - I should be quite large in another month). :|

July 10, 2005, 2:43 pm

So I have found a way to spend some time in this HOT Texas summer heat without actually overheating. I put my lawn chair in the kids' pool, fill the pool up to about the same level as the chair and voila, I'm all set - one side of me is getting a tan, while the other side of me sits in the pool. Okay, so I have to hose the rust off the metal legs of the chair before putting it in the pool each time (it gets rusty from me using it in the pool), and I'm usually surrounded by waterguns and plastic dinosaurs and children, but hey, whatever works, right? Call me poor white trash if you will, but I like to think that the correct term is innovative!!!

July 9, 2005, 12:23 pm

...the cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast... chocolate covered strawberries. Okay, so I need to not make these anymore because I just finished off all of them!

I am a little over 11 weeks pregnant now and am feeling so much better already. The nausea is still there (yuck!), but my energy levels are rising. I have a feeling the 2nd trimester will be MUCH better than the first!!! :)

I think I'm going to go scrapbook... :)

July 8, 2005, 10:12 pm

Just had to add that I made some chocolate covered strawberries today and WOW they were good! I just ate some of them since they were completely cooled off, and I may go eat ALL of them right now!!! I even guessed at how to make them (never made them before). I think I guessed right. Yum, yum, yum!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

July 8, 2005, 8:24 pm

Hot dogs and chocolate chip cookies. For some reason I keep eating them. I HATE hot dogs - gross! But apparently the baby likes them? And I've NEVER been a big chocolate chip cookie fan, but I cannot get enough of them!!! So much for my healthy eating! I was doing really well until the pregnancy cravings took over (well, those and the nausea).

For those that know Andy and want to write him a letter while he is in California, email me and I'll send you his address. He has no access to phones (well, there is a few payphones for several hundred guys for the first week he is there, and no cell phones are allowed, so basically no access), but he can receive mail. :)

I got my scrapbook table cleaned off today, and I got my big order from ScrapSupply yesterday (thanks to my birthday gift certificates), so I think I'm going to do some scrappin' tonight! :D

But first... I think I need to go make a milkshake with some strawberry ice-cream! :} Does this mean it's a boy? I craved sweets with my other boys too, but not with the girls! I had a dream last night that the baby was born and it was a boy, and he weighed like twelve pounds! *gasp* (my other babies weighed between 5 and 6 pounds). In my dream, I was like "wow, he's heavy". LOL

July 7, 2005, 7:20 pm

Well, Andy is gone. We dropped him off at work tonight with all his gear and he is headed for Fort Irwin, CA, for training. He'll be back sometime between August 8th and 12th. He'll be completely hot and miserable in the middle of the desert, and we'll miss him terribly. The kids and I are going to make one of our chains to count the days until he comes home (we make countdown chains with colored paper and staples - makes it easier for the kids to see how long it's going to be).

Thank you to Marci and Mom for the pretty flowers they sent for my birthday... I love all the multi-colored roses - so gorgeous! :) One day I'd love to have a flower garden with fresh cut flowers in my house every day!!! :D

July 6, 2005, 5:59 pm

I hope everyone had a good holiday weekend. We did. On Monday we were going to go on base to see the fireworks (they were having a big shin-dig), but saw lots of people parked on the side of the highway by the base so we decided to join them. We were there about an hour before the fireworks started and the hundreds of cars that were parked there all brought their own fireworks to shoot off before the "official" show started so we were surrounded by cool fireworks - the kids were amazed! Several fires were started and there were several fire/rescue trucks out there racing to put them all out. It was very entertaining. The "official" fireworks show started and we were able to find some John Sousa marches on the radio which went very well with the show. It was lots of fun - the kids had a BLAST. Here are just a couple pictures (because we all know my camera does not WORK in the dark!) :)

on the left is a BIG fire that was started, and on the right is one of the fireworks in the "pre-show" that people were dangerously shooting off on the side of the highway. :)

I don't think I have ever seen Jarvis so excited. He was just going on and on and his head was on total swivel - trying to not miss a single firework. Very cute. :)

all of us but Andy (he took the photo). :)

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!

July 3, 2005, 3:57 pm

I have a bone to pick with someone. I'm not quite sure who. We went shopping yesterday and looked around the mall and Target. I was looking for some clothes to fit me this summer since I have outgrown most of my shorts. Here's my beef ~ unless you are RICH (uh, and I'm not!), you cannot find maternity clothes to fit you if you are small! They (the "they" here is who I'm picking my bone with) assume that if you are pregnant, that you are size 6 or ABOVE. Well, what about us size 1 to 3 girls???!!! Do WE not need maternity clothes too??? I had this same problem with the other four kids. And I was so excited because they have come out with such cute maternity clothes since my last pregnancy (no more bows and light-blue, tapered jeans). Well, my bubble has burst. Maternity shirts STILL come down to my knees (even they're the so called 'extra small' ones), the shorts fall off of me, and don't even get me started on the maternity underwear!!! I suppose if you are under 5'6" and 125 pounds to begin with, you don't get pregnant? I KNOW there are other petite women out there - I say we stand up and RIOT!!!! Okay, so I'm not THAT passionate about it - just frustrated enough to rant about it in my blog. :) The Old Navy here didn't have maternity clothes, so I'm going to try them online - they are my last hope for INEXPENSIVE petite maternity clothes (the only petite ones I have found are charging like 40 bucks for a shirt - hello, I don't spend THAT much on shirts when I'm NOT pregnant and going to outgrow it in 7 months!!!) AUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) Does anyone else feel my pain here?

Darby told me this morning that she wants to go back to the clown store (meaning the car dealership - where the clowns were painting her face!). I told her "next time we buy a car". :) Here are a few photos...

darby's first face painting of the day~ she later had another clown wash this off and paint a clown face on her

worn out after being there for hours - drinking the last of her snowcone, remnants of her clown face still there. :)

waiting for dad to pull the new van around - Jarvis had had several snow cones? Uh, obviously they were blue! :)

Okay, one more photo for today... a pregnancy photo so everyone can see how big I am already. I'm only ten weeks along, but I look as though I'm four or five MONTHS! I have never shown so early. I already cannot wear most of my clothes - I think I have one pair of shorts that fit (which means a shopping trip, since it's too hot to wear pants, and who wants to wear dresses all the time?) But I just got some birthday money from Andy's parents (THANK YOU!), so I think I may head to the mall this afternoon!!! :) Anyway... here is my big belly... and don't tell me "you don't even look pregnant", because compared to some I may not - but for ME - this is a BIG belly!!! LOL :D

What a day! For lunch today, we were able to meet up with some old friends for lunch. We hadn't seen Jodi & Byron for 8 years! We were good friends with them when Andy was in the Marine Corps and we were stationed at Camp Lejeune. They lived in our neighborhood (when we first lived there) and went to our church. We got to spend a little time with them today at Burger King - they were passing through on their way to Dallas. It was really good to see them again - hopefully we won't go another 8 years before seeing them again (but since we live between her parents and his parents, I'm guessing we'll see them again before we move away from Ft. Hood :D). Got a couple of photos (I was going to include a photo of Jodi & Byron and Andy & me, BUT I looked at them and WOW I need to do my roots!!! So no photos of me until after tomorrow when I fix that problem! :D)...

jodi, bryon, kylie, and meagan :)

our kids and jodi & byron's kids - they got along wonderfully and had a blast playing on the BK play area. :)

Also, woo hoo, I got a birthday present today! Well, we needed it anyway and were planning to get a new(er) vehicle before Andy left for Iraq, but there was no air conditioning in our van, and it was over 100 degrees, so driving back from Temple, Andy pulled into AutoMax! They were having a huge sale and food and stuff for the kids (the kids had a blast hanging out at the car dealership by the way), but we ended up being there for five, yes FIVE, hours. They were super busy, and the power went out while we were there, we almost left... BUT the Lord worked everything out and we came away with this...

...another big, huge van (hey we are a big, huge family!) ~ here are a couple of quick photos andy took this evening, more photos to come... it's a 2001 GMC Safari, and the air conditioning works!!! It's in awesome condition, and it seats 8 (we are about to be a family of 7!), and it's sooooo nice. thank you to matt & carolyn for providing us with the last vehicle (the chevy astro) ~ that van carried us for a year and a half and it ended it's days with us with 195,000 miles on it ~ a good run, i'd say ~ hey, i would definitely recommend a chevy now! the van we just got is basically the same thing, just newer)

Anyway, I have more photos from today (the kids got their faces painted at the car dealership), and I'll share those tomorrow... along with a new July look for my website (hey, it's gotta be patriotic, huh?). :) OH ~ I almost forgot ~ my first day that was FULL of activities since I had the pregnancy problems and I (and the baby) did GREAT! Praise God!!! :D :D :D
