Take a leap today...

Today is day 1 of detox. I had egg whites (fried in a little olive oil), all-natural apple sauce, and unsweetened green tea for breakfast. So far so good - I already had a lingering migraine from yesterday so I can't really say the detox is going to give me headaches. lol Though I'm counting on feeling pretty awful over the weekend. I'll keep you guys posted. My diet for the next week or two will consist of fruit, veggies, egg whites, brown rice, possibly some plain chicken, and green and/or other herbal tea. Then I'll add back one food at a time to see what bothers me and what doesn't. Not that I was eating incredibly awful; I've made some major diet changes in the past year but it wasn't really helping. The last month or so I've let some more junky foods creep back in thinking 'what's the difference? I feel like crap anyway.' So it's time to start from scratch. And plus, I want to see if wheat and/or gluten bothers me. I don't think dairy bothers me, but I'm avoiding it during detox to be sure. I had already switched from margarine to butter and from the regular whole milk you find at the grocery to local milk delivered to my door with no added hormones, etc. But I need to just cleanse my system and start over. Thanks again to my friend, Sarah, for giving me a push! :)

The next step for us...

I haven't been good about taking photos this week. Just haven't felt well (another motivation for the detox).

We are wanting to move closer to the base this summer, when our lease is up. The town we are looking at moving to, Dupont, is so cute! It's like something straight out of Gilmore Girls (only not in Connecticut, and it's mostly brand new... and it's just five minutes from Andy's work). Maybe I'll go take some photos sometime soon. Andy drove me over there a few weeks ago and I fell in love with it. HOPEFULLY a big enough house will be available (for a small enough rent) this summer. They have a couple of homes similar to what we are in now available at the moment, so I'm thinking we should be good. Our second choice of towns in Steilacoom. Both towns are right by the Puget Sound too, and I'm all about being near water. Plus, we'll be closer to the big cities - just between Tacoma and Olympia (only 15 minutes from each... we're kind of in the boondocks right now). :)

Here are a few photos of the area that I found online:

A sad day...

I used to be a food connoisseur. I loved food, and I would put nothing in my mouth that was not delicious. I ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. I gorged myself on fatty, sugary, mouth-watering delicacies, and I enjoyed every second of every bite. And it was even more awesome than just satisfying my taste buds... I didn't gain weight either. I could eat anything and stay the same size. It was awesome.

But now...

Now food is a hassle. A forced necessity. I have to read labels and I'd rather just not even bother with the whole eating process. Of course, I get ill if I DON'T eat, so I can't just skip meals. And usually I feel horrible AFTER eating as well. It's just a terribly sad day when I realize that I don't even like food anymore. Even when I decide that I'm going to sneak that piece of candy, or a cookie... it doesn't taste nearly as good as it used to. Actually, I don't even LIKE candy anymore, which is something I thought I'd never say. I guess when you go without them for so long, you don't think chemicals taste good anymore. Go figure. Another irony - I'm gaining weight now that I'm NOT eating what I want. Go figure. Again.

Anyway, I'm doing some research on another 'detox' diet (with the help of a friend who has graciously offered to help me figure things out), and I'm going to see if wheat and/or gluten bother me. Because SOMETHING is making me ill, and I am bound and determined to figure it all out so that I can lead a NORMAL existence! Because I've had it. And I'm NOT going back to the doctor on base. Because the only thing he is good for is writing prescriptions for his next hurried guess at what will get me out of his office.

p.s. My blood sugar has been at the high end of normal. Though I do notice a difference in a few numbers. Yesterday, my fasting (when I woke up) number was 129, but today it was 101 - and there is a big difference in my ability to function (I had a hard time even getting up yesterday). So I do think there is something to the blood sugar thing, but it's not as bad as I thought. It hasn't been over 145 after meals so far. I definitely think there is a combination of things going on, and I'll be SO relieved to figure it all out, IF I ever figure it all out. Right now I'm going to figure out how to go about getting my insurance to pay for a civilian doctor that isn't interested in herding all the military wives and kids in and out like cattle. Wish me luck. ;)

Jarvis Alexander is Nine...

Photos from Jarvis' birthday party - all of them were taken by Brittany Carden.

Jarvis loves zebra cakes, so I opened about three boxes of them, and voila!, a birthday cake.

Those Transformer toys were a huge hit. Everyone loved playing with them.

Jacob was insistent that we all wear party hats! :)

Lighting the candles.

:)

Making a wish.

Justice's idea of getting his photo taken. He's 12, okay?!

Darby wore a party dress to the event.

This was in the middle of Jacob's flu from you-know-where, and he was barely keeping crackers down. He was NOT happy that no one was immediately giving him a zebra cake (pitiful, right?).

Darby, me, Jarvis, and Justice - obviously

The silly-heads!

presents galore!

:)

Jacob ended up taking one nibble of his zebra cake, but he ate all of his ice-cream... and I don't think he threw up TOO much. :-P

They didn't last long (I didn't have one though - zebra cakes are not the things that tempt me off my healthy eating (chocolate chip cookies do, though).

Darby with cake on her mouth

yummy ice-cream

Brittany - self-portrait

opening gifts

Jarvis is about to start the soccer season in a couple of weeks, so we got him a new ball.

Can't have too many Transformers

Justice checking out which GI Joes Jarvis got

Yes, my shoes are all worn out, the funky socks are no surprise. The photo is meant to be of the cute baby toes. :)

Poor guy didn't feel good and just wanted to cuddle with Mommy

Brittany did a good job with the photography. And Jarvis loved his party. He also got to go out with me over the weekend. We did some shopping and went to see Spiderwick Chronicles, which was really cute - we enjoyed it.

"And that is called canibalism, my dear children, which is, in fact, frowned upon in most societies"

Finally, some photos...

Jarvis was opening a birthday gift from G-ma and Pappy, and while he was reading the card, Jacob swiped his $10 bill...

Jacob is giving me the evil eye because I swiped it back. :)

I still love his little hands and feet. :)

My photo-a-day page is updated through February 23rd, and I will post some birthday party photos later on. Enjoy. :)

"I wouldn't say I've been missing it Bob"...

I've been a lazy blogger. I know I have been neglecting my photo-a-day page, but the photos are actually on the computer now. I just need to resize them and upload them to my site. One day soon, guys, I promise. :)

Right now I have errands to run though, so maybe tonight or tomorrow. I've been in a fog again, so I think it must have something to do with blood sugar or allergies or both. I'm going to break down and spend the 50 bucks on the test strips so I can see for myself what my blood sugar is when I'm feeling all floopy. I just can't bring myself to edit photos and reply to emails and blog about anything of interest when I'm in the fog. Sorry.

Okay, well, I know this was a REALLY exciting update. But I have things to do. Peace out. ;)

February 22, 2008, 8:56 am

Time to break down and get my hair trimmed...

Jacob is feeling much better, so I may have the extra time to upload photos soon. Aren't you excited? Or have you given up hope that I'll ever update the photo-a-day? :) I didn't catch the flu, nor did Justice, Brittany, or Andy. Let's hope it stays that way! (hopefully it was just a 'children 10 and under' bug) :)

I can't get the doctor to call me with my CT scan results. Meanwhile, I'm still having migraines, but not nearly as often since I've been on the new medicine. I don't seem to have too many side effects with the medicine, so that's good, but when I have to take my migraine medicine - mixed with the migraine preventative... whew... side effects galore. It's hard to function at all when that occurs. But like I said, it's not that often - just one or two days per week so far (compared with feeling crappy 5 or more days per week before the medicine). *eta: the nurse just called and said my CT scan was normal. yay.*

I go through stages where I don't have much to blog about, and I think I'm in one right now.

We have a really cool set of wooden blocks. Several trays of them in different shapes and colors (they stack together on top of a tray with wheels and a pull-string). Jacob has become more and more interested in them (they are one of the only toys that are kept downstairs), and the past few days he has been picking out all of the short cylinders, or all of the ones with arches, etc. Before that, he was taking the alphabet magnets on the fridge and sorting them by color. So last night, after he was asleep, I went through and organized all the blocks by shape AND color - to see his reaction. It's my photo for yesterday, so you'll see one day. I just showed them to him, and he was VERY excited. He went in there all ready to organize blocks, and found it was done. He was all "Oh! Oh! Oh!" And now he won't play with them... because he doesn't want to mess them up. He's like "My work here is done!" Oh well. Maybe once the novelty of them being perfectly organized is worn off, he'll go in there and build a castle like a normal kid. lol!

My email inbox is worse, if you can believe it. I figure one day this coming week, I'll set aside a day to get all caught up on emails and empty out that ole inbox. Hold your breath, okay? :)

For now, I have socks to match up (a large basket full... people are starting to complain they have no socks and I come downstairs in the morning to socks EVERYwhere from kids searching for a match... I really hate matching them and usually just throw them in the basket when I'm folding clothes until it starts overflowing [like now], and I absolutely have to sit and fold them. I'm not sure why I don't just have one of the kids do that chore (?!?!)... maybe that'll be Darby's new weekend job), and I have a million other things on my to-do list. No time for photos right now. Hopefully soon. :)

Happenings...

  • Jarvis turned NINE yesterday! {photos of his Zebra Cake and Transformers party later}
  • Jacob's snotty nose and sore throat turned into vomiting and diarrhea. i.e. One nasty flu. Darby had it in a milder dose last week (a huge thank you to whatever kid from school passed it to her). And Jarvis had the 'cold' part of it. We're hoping this one doesn't make all the rounds!! So far I haven't gotten any of it, even with Jacob wanting me every second he's not asleep.
  • Andy is back in the field as of this morning. We'll see him again on Friday night. He has lots of field props in the next few weeks.
  • I hate homework. Seriously. And Science projects?! Ugh!!! Now, if I could CHOOSE what projects I needed to help my kids with at home, fine. But when it's the teachers idea, I think it needs to be done AT school. They are there for 6 freakin' hours - plenty of time to learn and get things done. I'm just sayin'. And did I mention I hate Science projects? And I'm using 'hate' here in the strongest sense of the word. I hated them when I was a kid and I hate it when my kids have to do them. I honestly do NOT see the point. Research papers? Sure, why not? But do the experiments at school, in the Chemistry lab. There are so many things I wish I could go back and tell my teachers, "No, I have never had to use that in my adult life... it's completely useless information to me."
  • I'm reading Created to be His Help Meet {by Debi Pearl} again. Lots of good stuff in there about being a Biblical wife.
  • I might take Jarvis to a movie tonight - just me and him - for his birthday.
  • I'll try to update my photo a day pages later today. The photos are all still on my camera.
  • And now I'm off to do some bills. Fun!

February 14, 2008, 9:39 pm

I can't think of a title.

So I basically did nothing today. I took some naps. That's right, I said 'some'. Sometimes my migraine medicine makes me feel really drugged and useless, and that pretty much sums up today. I did manage to take Justice to basketball practice. And I played on my laptop a little. And Jacob entertained me a lot. Hopefully this migraine is a one-day thing and will be gone by morning!

Yeah, I've got nothing interesting to say. I can't be witty when I'm drugged. I can slur my speech a little and trip over furniture - that's probably entertaining - but I'm not going to videotape it and put it up on youtube for you. Sorry.

I had an idea for a blog post, a take on that 4 things survey that runs rampant amongst emails and blogs. Only mine was going to be 5 things, and different. You'll love it. Or I will. Because I'm the one that loves surveys. And lists. I can't get enough of them. I'll even read surveys that complete strangers have filled out. I love the reader surveys in the back of the Real Simple magazines. Those thoroughly entertain me. I should go to their website and fill one out to see if they'll publish it. Except I don't think I'm that incredibly interesting, but they do seem to publish surveys from ordinary people sometimes - so maybe I have a shot.

About a week ago, I was sitting in our front room with my kids (our front room consists of a big comfy chair and ottoman and about six bookcases full of books). I noticed the shelf full of yearbooks, only three of which are mine (not sure how I ended up with so few), and I pulled them out and started flipping through. Those things crack me up. I should look through them more often. My kids love the "fads of the year" pages, and say things like "Really?!?!" and "Why?!?!" And they get a huge kick out of reading what my friends wrote to me (though Andy's yearbooks are even more entertaining in that arena). In my 6th grade yearbook, one of my friends wrote something about REO Speedwagon and Air Supply. Oh man. Those were the days. Not that I'd EVER want to relive ANY part of my childhood or teenage years. Good Lord!!! I hated growing up. I hated high school. I had fun at times, sure, but for the most part, I could not WAIT to get older and get the heck out of there ('there' being wherever I was at the time). I DID get married the month after I turned 18 and moved 500 miles away, remember? Not that I got married just to get out of the house/town (Andy - I love you honey!). But getting away was a definite motivation to get married as soon as possible. How did I get on this subject? Oh yeah. Yearbooks. I have my 5th, 6th, and 12th grade yearbooks. My senior picture is horrid. At least the one they put in the yearbook. WHAT is with the black, off-the-shoulder 1/2 shirt they make you wear in those things? Do they still do that? Or do they let you actually be an individual now? Of course, I was about 7 1/2 months pregnant in my senior photos (go me!), so if it wasn't that, it'd have been the weird one-piece skort/dress/babydoll/whatever thing I was wearing in my 'outdoor' photos (the outfit that most covered up my large belly). Attractive! Wow. My favorite is the VERY thick and dark lipstick that I wore at all times. Wow again. I just tote around a thing of chapstick now, and on the rare occasion I wear lipstick, it's very naturally colored.

I am getting ready (meaning 'in the next few months') to sort through all my photos and organize them into albums (they are a mess right now - in boxes, old albums, and who knows where else). When I find some good ones, I'll scan them in and do another blast from the past series of posts. If you missed the last one, I think it was last spring. Go back and check it out. It's entertaining. {eta: The old photos are on this page... scroll down, there are several posts with entertaining old photos.)

I'll stop with the drug-induced ramblings so you can get on with your day. Or night. Or whatever.

"And that's why you don't use a one armed person to scare someone."

Did you enjoy that 'incredibly witty' post I put up yesterday afternoon? Yeah, I didn't have time for such frivolities. Actually, Andy surprised me by coming hom early from the field! He has staff duty today though (24 hours), but then his 4 day weekend starts. The kids have Monday and Tuesday off school, so their 4-day starts Saturday. Andy's taking the kids camping... I, um, need to stay with Jacob, yeah, that's it. What am I going to do when I don't have a baby/toddler as an excuse to not go camping in the cold, wet weather?! I told Andy I'd be happy to try out all the luxury hotels with room service... anytime he likes!!! I did agree to go camping at some point this summer. Maybe I can talk them into renting a camper. Why do they enjoy tents so much?! I don't get it. I love hiking and exploring, but when it's time to sleep? Find me the nearest Holiday Inn!

When Jacob thinks something is yucky, he says "eww, gross bescumming!" Bescumming = disgusting. I love how he says things. He repeats EVERYTHING. He has a set of Thomas & Friends train cards, and he knows ALL their names.

I actually scrapbooked last night, for the first time in 2008. I'll be doing a lot more of that since I have my scrap desk all cleaned off now!

Does anyone have big plans for Valentine's Day? I was up helping Darby with her Bratz Valentine cards last night. Why do we always wait until the last possible minute? I bought the things a week ago, but still, we waited until the night of the 13th to fill them out. Jarvis was signed up to bring drinks to his class party today (he's been home sick for two days, but *said* he felt "great!" this morning. lol), and his backpack is VERY heavy. He has 2 1/2 boxes of Capri Suns in there with his notebooks. Brittany had an orthodontist appointment today, but she begged me to change it since there was so much fun stuff going on today... and people would be passing around candy! So she's going tomorrow instead (so she'll only miss boring academic stuff). She should just have a few more months with the braces on - her teeth look so straight! Andy's at work til tomorrow morning, but we went on our V-day date on Sunday.

I watched 'Martian Child' last night. It was cute. I didn't know it was based on a true story, but I watched a thing in the special features about it after the movie. I love the special features. I also love John and Joan Cusack, and they are both in the movie... as a brother and sister this time. What a novelty.

My head started hurting last night, and I woke up with a migraine this morning (thank God for drugs! As much as I hate having them in my system, they sure do come in handy sometimes). Anyway, it is the first migraine in almost a week so we are making major progress!!! I get SO much done without migraines weighing me down.

Yeah, maybe I'll get to that 'incredibly witty' post at some point today?

But right now, I have nothing else to say.

February 13, 2008, 10:57 am

Did you say it turned inside out? And then it exploded?

So, now I'm not tired enough! I couldn't get to sleep last night, so I read blogs and played on Facebook (my current online obsession... okay, ONE of my current online obessions). I started clicking through names from my high school and found someone that went to my church, and he was linked to like 8 million people I was in the youth group with back in the day. Anyway, it was a fun blast from the past and it'll be fun catching up with old friends. If any of them wander over to my blog, be sure to say hello. :)

I know I have been boring lately, so I'll try to come up with an incredibly witty post at some point today. I know you long to be entertained by me.

Does anyone want to come fold my clean laundry? It's sitting in a pile in the living room. What about mopping my kitchen/dining room floor? Any takers? I spent the last two days rearranging and organizing my bedroom and scrapbooking area, and the rest of the house got neglected. Except for the chores the kids did... and by kids, I mean Brittany and Justice. I guess Jarvis did a few, but Darby? That girl kills me when it comes to chores. Her favorite: "I got bespracted" (that means 'distracted' for those of you who don't speak 6 year old).

Andy has been out in the field since Monday morning. He should be home tonight or tomorrow night... or possibly Friday morning. (Who knows which? The Army didn't feel it was necessary to tell me that many details.) But he gets a four day weekend, and so do the kids! Yay! I love long weekends. Not that *I* go to work or school, but not having to wake anyone up at the buttcrack of dawn is awesome! I love that extra hour of sleep Jacob gives me when no one is up slamming doors and waking him up.

This was going to be a short post. Um... do I know how to make short posts? Well, people keep reading my blog, so I guess I'm not boring you too much with all my ramblings. I usually get between 50 and 65 different readers per day... some of you read at home and at work so you're two of those readers, but that's still not bad, eh? Though I know a girl who gets like 900 readers per day... she's a lot funnier than I am though. And I just realized I said 'though' twice in that sentence. Whatever.

February 12, 2008, 12:59 pm

There's been no messages for me from a girl by the name of Ver-ON-i-CA...

*I can't stop with the song lyrics. :)

*You get lots of photos today (see end of post). Aren't you happy?

*My energy is returning... it's awesome! The heart medicine is working as a migraine preventive, and also keeping my heart rate down. I'm taking my Supermom vitamins again. Still no word on the CT scan, so I'm taking that as good news. Things are looking up! Thank you all for the prayers!

*We didn't go to the concert - it was all 'tickets at the door', but then they started selling advanced tickets unbeknownst to us, so they were sold out by Sunday morning when I looked online. But Andy and I had an awesome date - actually we went out on Saturday AND Sunday (plus Brittany had a babysitting gig for a neighbor this weekend, so she's rich now... we pay her when she babysits more than the normal sisterly duties). We had a blast together (Andy and I); it was nice getting out.

*I love Target. I got a couple of clearance shirts the other day. One of which Andy made fun of... and so did Brittany, but *I* like it. I could spend hours at Target. And ours isn't even a Super Target. It's fairly tiny as far as Targets go. When we move this summer, I hope we live near a big, giant Super Target.

*We discovered Garlic Jim's Pizza. It's delicious! We had seen a guy dancing with a sign, many times on the side of the highway, and Andy and I finally went for lunch on Sunday. It rocked my world.

*I'm in the middle of rearranging the master bedroom/office/scrap area and organizing. It's been on my to-do list for a while, I just haven't had the energy for it. Yeah - there's still a million emails in my inbox, and I don't foresee myself getting to them until I catch up on a few more things around here and get about five more projects done. My energy has been so rare the last few years, that when I get it - I like to take full advantage of it!! Right now, I'm taking a lunch break so I figured I'd post. Anyway, I'll post photos of the rearranging when I get done.

And the photos you've all been waiting for...

Andy took some photos of the snow with his camera (whenever that was - a couple weeks ago, I guess). This is a frozen lake on base.

A winter wonderland :)

'Jeep' likes the snow.

Brittany made Jacob's cupcakes this year. I was tempted and took a bite of one, and then realized (again) that I don't like chemical-laden food anymore. It's weird how your tastes change when you change your eating style. So I didn't take anymore bites, figuring it totally wasn't worth it for something that wasn't even delicious (though Britt did a great job making them and they tasted how they were supposed to). Anyway, Jacob loved them! :)

Jacob was sitting on my lap a second ago while I was putting these photos on here and he started sining "birthday to you"... I didn't even know he knew it! He's so cute!! :) In this photo, he is trying pitifully to blow out the candles... it wasn't working out for him.

Andy finally blew them out so Jacob clapped and said "Yaaaaaaay!!!" :)

Hamming it up with his cupcake and silly grin. (and crazy hair! He needs a haircut, but even if it was cut - his hair goes every direction. Justice's did the same thing at this age.)

That's his ice-cream on the table; he moved it there. Oh, and he's sitting on a phone book - he's not really that tall in the chairs. :)

Britt struggling to get some ice-cream out. :)

The conductor's hat looks horrible on me, but I'm all about party participation. ;)

Darby enjoying the festivities :)

Jacob was like 'get away!' lol!

Opening his gifts... all trains, of course.

I love his little feet! I'm obsessed with them!!!

Actually, I'm totally obsessed with every bit of him - he's so adorable and squishy. I'm so glad he loves to cuddle with me. :)

More trains to find...

The train track he got with his money from G-ma and Pappy. He loves that thing! :)

Out with Andy on Sunday... I liked the stripes outside Sports Authority. The face I'm making? I don't know. It's a cross between a kiss and an I'm-cool. Only it turned out to be neither, and ended up being an I'm-a-complete-and-utter-dork face. But my fingernails are painted... something that does not happen very often anymore. I borrowed some hot pink from Darby to match my shirt. And check out my groovy 80s earrings that I got at a yardsale (they were unused - some lady had a huge stash that looked like she confiscated a huge box from Claire's in 1987... was Claire's around then? Probably not.) Oh, and yeah - I've gained weight (as seen in the above photo) b/c I have to eat every couple of hours to not be completely weak and unable to function. Ten pounds. In just a few weeks. Not good. So I'm a fatty now. And hopefully I don't get any larger. But I plan to start on a workout plan soon.

Photo by Brittany... it's blurry but I like it anyway. :)

*I'm about to update the photo-a-day. A few days are missing from when I was feeling horrible, but I should be able to keep up with it now. Check back in a little while and it'll be updated.*
ETA: photo-a-day updated to February 10th, will add 11th and 12th later today. Back to work for now :)

How about some information, pleeease, please, a-please please...

  • CT scan this morning was quick and easy. They said the doctor will call me with the results within 3 to 5 business days. I translate that to mean I'll be calling the doctor next Friday asking how come I have heard nothing. Anyway, it's in God's hands, whatever the results. I'm not worried.
  • Andy surprised me today... he's taking me to a Kimya Dawson concert on Sunday evening (she sings a lot of the songs on the Juno soundtrack. I like her). It should be fun! :)
  • Jacob's got a runny nose, sore throat and fever. And he rubbed his snot all over me yesterday - but who was I to turn down all the cuddling?! I started coughing a little today, but hopefully it doesn't end up being too bad. With all the health issues I've had, a cold is nothing more than a simple annoyance. No big deal.
  • Got my new Real Simple in the mail today; I think I'll go chill out for a while and read it. :)

One more thing...

I know I already posted a really long post this morning, but I thought you all should know that there are currently 360 messages in my inbox. My inbox that I try to keep clear of all the messages I've already responded to or filed away. 360. So if you haven't heard back from me (probably a lot of you), know that I will get back to you as soon as possible! :)

How much do you tip?

The pizza delivery guy seems so overwhelmed when he receives a 15% tip. Honestly, I'd probably give him a little more if I didn't pay ahead of time when I order online. Because when they see that 15% tip, they get the pizza here in record time. From what I understand, most people only give them like one dollar, even though that can't even be 5% of their order! What do you tip the pizza guy?

At restaurants, I give 15% for mediocre service (what the service usually is). If the service is awesome, I give 20%, and somewhere in between if it's good/great/etc. If the service is terrible, I might tip a little lower, but having waited tables in the past, it has to be pretty bad for me to forgo the 15%. Oh, and I usually round up or down to the nearest 1/2 dollar. You?

Getting my hair done - since this isn't something I've done very much, I'm still a little confused on how much I'm supposed to tip. I never even got my hair cut professionally until I was married with two kids (my mom always cut my hair). And even now that I don't know anyone who can cut my hair as a favor, it's rare I get my hair done more than twice a year. And it's even more rare that it's not at a place like SuperCuts. Even though the two best haircuts I ever had were at really nice, expensive salons... but I don't have a money tree out back, and both of those haircuts were paid for by others - one was on a business trip and the company paid for everyone to use the salon attached to the resort we were at; the other was at a deployed spouses retreat in Dallas and all the women got their hair done for free. Oh wait, I guess I did pay for Andrea and I to get our hair cut and highlighted one time when she was visiting and I was playing hookie from work. Anyway, you know I love to go off on those rabbit trails. What do you tip when you get your hair cut? Especially at a place like SuperCuts where you are getting a mediocre cut at best?

Two hour delay...

My neighbor called me around 6:30 this morning, and I barely answered (I normally wouldn't even look at the phone that early, but I thought it might be Andy or something, since he had left for work long before). I was glad I answered, as she let me know school was delayed for two hours. Apparently, it was icy on some of the more remote bus routes. Thankfully, I didn't have to get up just yet, as Brittany came running up the stairs to ask why her bus was late (she was hoping school was closed - lol!). I'm sure she wishes she'd have known before she got out of bed so she could have gotten the extra sleep! The other kids are still here; they don't have to leave until 10:10 now. They love the late days, because they don't have to make those up like the all-day snow days. :)

Photos...

If you didn't notice, I got the photo-a-day pages updated through February 3rd. I'm pretty sure only one photo has been taken since then, so you aren't missing much. I'll try to get back to taking photos every day. I'll try to do Jacob's birthday photos today too. Although if I have energy, I probably won't spend much time on here. In fact, now that my breakfast is kicking in (I ate a little late this morning since school was delayed), I'll probably get off here as soon as I post this.

Resting heart rate...

My blood pressure has always been around 90/60 (or a little less) and my resting heart rate around 85 or 90ish. Lately, my heart rate has been shooting up to 150 or so for no apparent reason, and is usually over 100 at any given moment. So last night when I timed it before bed (the new meds say to keep an eye on it), and it was 67 bpm, I panicked a little. Okay, maybe panic is too strong of a word. I guess I should say that I wondered if it was too low as I drifted off to sleep. According to wikipedia, the resting heart rate for a woman should be around 75, so I guess it wasn't *too* low. It just seemed super low to me, since mine is usually a little high. It was 69 this morning. In case you all wondered; and I know you were ALL just sitting there going "I wonder what Petra's heart rate is!"

Freecycle...

I've spoken about my love of freecycle in the past. Well, I hadn't been paying much attention to it lately, even though I do get the emails in my inbox. I usually just delete them all. Well, some of you may know that our dining table is too small for us (we have a homemade leaf in the middle of it that's kind of wobbly and have to keep a tablecloth on it since it's a different color than the table), and we only have 3 wooden chairs left (they were really old - from Andy's parent's newlywed days - and have been breaking... two of the ones we have are actually broken but still usable), and we use camp chairs for those who don't get to the wooden chairs first. It's all very classy and trailer park-ish. When we moved here, I had big plans to go yardsaling and find different types of wooden chairs and paint them different colors and it was all going to be very cute and trendy. Well, I didn't find any chairs at the three yard sales I went to, and I haven't been able to spend 80 bucks per chair on the cheapest chairs I've been able to find in regular stores.

So, on Sunday, Andy and Justice were working in the garage (organizing military gear), and I was still feeling awful, so I was on the computer and saw that in the neighboring town, someone was giving away a 'large dining table and six chairs' - exactly what we needed! So I emailed them, and lo and behold, I was the one who got the response from her to come and get them. Yay. So Andy and Justice headed over there to pick them up. Andy comes back and tells me he's going back. On his second trip, he brought home a patio set - a NICE patio set with four chairs and a decent size table, AND a bike for me! He said the lady was giving all the stuff away and asked if he wanted it. We (i.e. 'I') have been wanting a patio set for years! And a bike (just not enough to buy one for myself, but it's been on the 'I wouldn't mind having' list). Anyway, they're all in great shape, and we feel very blessed (God is good!). The same lady has a deep freezer as well - another thing we've really been wanting - we just haven't had a chance to go pick it up. Hopefully tomorrow, if she is willing to hold on to it that long.

So the table and chairs are the only things that need a little work - they are solid wood and sturdy, but the chairs have upholstered seats, and they need to be recovered (easy peasy), and I thought I might stain or paint them while I'm at it. So here's my survey for you (if you, in fact, have read this far down in this incredibly long post):

Should we paint the chairs? Should we stain them? What color/shade? What about the table? Not that I'll listen to you, but I might take your suggestions under consideration. :)

I'll try to include a photo at some point. I'm thinking of heading to the fabric store today. I could probably cover all six chair seats with just a couple yards of fabric.

Okay, long enough post for now. I have no photo to leave you with. Sorry.

I actually had energy today and got tons of stuff done around here. Yay. I don't know if it's a fluke that I don't have a migraine today and was able to function properly, or if that medicine I started taking yesterday is working that wonderfully. Time will tell. I do know my heart hasn't been racing (the medicine is usually used for people prone for heart attacks). So yay. I will get the photos updated soon. I used a couple of the free fonts from Scrapsupply for my February graphics. In case you wondered. :) Here's a photo from Jacob's Thomas birthday party... (more to come)...

"I'm singing... in a store... I'm in a store AND I'M SING-ING"...

So I went to the doc today. Why are doctors so interested in shoving as many drugs at you as possible? And I can't get the guy to redo the prescription for the blood sugar test strips (since my fasting test was normal, he doesn't think I have high blood sugar ever), so I'm going to just go buy some (ugh!) because I'd really like to be able to SEE what my blood sugar is when I'm feeling super-awful. Anyway, he DID refer me for a CT head scan, so that's good - at least if nothing is wrong, then we'll have peace of mind, you know? I get that done on Friday morning. And he prescribed a prophylactic (I don't know how to spell that word) for me to take to try to ward off the migraines. It'll also decrease my blood pressure and heart rate. I usually have low blood pressure anyway, but it's been closer to normal levels lately - more importantly, I've had an elevated heart rate, so the drugs is supposed to also help with that. Hopefully it doesn't make my blood pressure *too* low though - the last doctor didn't want to give me this medicine *because* of my low blood pressure. But the drugs that guy gave me didn't work, and they made me so dizzy I could barely stand, let alone walk. It's all very confusing and frustrating.

You know, I know people who KNOW what is wrong with them, but they refuse to change their lifestyle so they still feel crappy. I am perfectly willing to do WHATEVER it takes to feel good - but I don't know WHAT to do since I don't know what's causing my issues. Crazy.

Anyway, that took up most of my day, and now I have errands to run (fun) and Justice has ball practice later on... Oh, my migraine is still there, but I have my medicine refilled now, so I can function. Oh, and the doctor had no answers as to why I have no energy (remember, he thinks I have no blood sugar issues, except maybe a little hypoglycemia and he was like "just eat some fruit if you feel bad" - wow - even though I explained that my numbers were high in the past, not low... what can ya do?).

Hopefully we can get this all figured out soon though, and I can bore you guys with something other than my health issues, cause I am sure you are tired of hearing about it - I know I am tired of dealing with it!

{I haven't forgotten the photos; just haven't had a chance yet}

She's dressed in yellow, she says hello, come sit next to me ya fine fellow...

Yeah, I heard Bust-a-Move on the radio the other day. Ah, memories. lol

You know how I added on my comments page about the blogger giveaway carnival?! Well, I won a handmade platter! I'm so excited! Check out Kim's site - she'll be making a platter for me... http://frogpondsrock.blogspot.com. So sweet of her!!! Thank you again Kim!!! :)

I haven't updated recently because I haven't been feeling well, and have lots going on on top of that. I'm going to go to the doctor tomorrow. I'll call in the a.m. to see if I can get a same-day appointment, and if not, then I'll just go down there and see if they can fit me in as a walk-in. I've had a migraine for pretty much two weeks. Yeah, that's not normal. And I ran out of my Zomig (migraine meds), so I took a Percocet I had on hand today. It didn't get rid of all the head pain, but it got rid of the neck and shoulder pain and dulled the pain in my head enough so I could function at least somewhat. Go Percocet. If I was the addicted-to-painkillers type of gal, Percocet would be my number one choice. :) Anyway, I'm going to tell them to give me an MRI... just to rule out anything crazy, you know?

I'm working on photos. I finally got them off my camera, and should get the photo-a-day page updated today, and add some other photos to the blog soon after - photos Andy took of the snow; photos from Jacob's birthday, etc.

And last, but certainly not least... Today and tomorrow are birthdays of close friends and family, so...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THERESA, JOSH, AND GINA!!!!!!! :)
